Cobblestones and confetti

The brief

Sofia and Marcus had hired a local planner for their church ceremony and reception. What they didn’t have was the rest of the weekend, and they wanted it to feel like the town itself was hosting.

What we did

Thursday opened with a rooftop welcome party overlooking the Parroquia, a mezcal tasting table run by a producer from Oaxaca and a trio playing boleros. Friday’s rehearsal dinner for fifty became a callejoneada for all 175: mojigangas, a mariachi band and a burro carrying tequila led the crowd from the main square through the streets to a hacienda courtyard, where dinner was served under a ceiling of hand-cut papel picado in the couple’s palette.

Saturday belonged to the ceremony planner; we handed over the timeline and stayed out of the way. Sunday we drove everyone forty minutes to a vineyard for a long brunch among the vines and a lavender field for the last photographs.

The detail people remember

The papel picado. Eight hundred banners, each hand-cut in Puebla with the couple’s initials woven into the traditional patterns, strung across a courtyard 300 years older than the country they flew in from.
