A cliffside weekend above the Pacific
Marina & Theo
Three days on a granite point in Los Cabos, a ceremony timed to the last light and a dinner for 140 under a canopy of bare bulbs.
The brief
Marina grew up in San Diego and spent childhood spring breaks in Cabo; Theo had never been. They wanted the drama of the Pacific coast, a guest list that could fly in from both coasts in an afternoon, and a weekend that felt like a house party rather than a resort wedding.
What we did
We took a full buyout of a private estate in Pedregal, where the terraces step down the cliff to the water. Thursday was a low-key welcome on the upper terrace, Friday a boat afternoon on the Sea of Cortez for the wedding party while parents toured the organic farms in the foothills.
The ceremony on Saturday was held on the lowest point, forty minutes before sunset, with the swell breaking beneath the couple. We spent the design budget on the dinner: a single 140-foot table across the main terrace, terracotta and brass tabletop, bougainvillea running its length and 1,200 bulbs overhead. A twelve-piece band from Guadalajara played until the neighbours’ patience ran out at 1am, at which point the after-party moved indoors.
The detail people remember
At sunrise on Sunday, thirty guests met on the beach below for a blessing led by Theo’s grandfather, with coffee and conchas from a bakery in San José. Nobody had planned to be awake for it. Everyone was.
“We interviewed six planners. Altamar was the only one who told us our first venue idea was wrong, and why. Every decision after that came from trust. The weekend was the best three days of our lives, and we never once looked at a clock.”
